The slugger from Longview got past the first round.

Chris Davis ripped eight homers in the opening round of the Home Run Derby Monday night.

Hit first home run travelled 451 feet.

The East Texan added four more homers in the second round.

Davis, the former Longview Lobo, leads the majors in home runs.

He's hit 37 homers so far this season.  Davis has tied Reggie Jackson for the most home runs at the All-Star break in American League history.

Tuesday night, Davis will start at first base for the American Leaguers.  He is the top vote-getter at the Midsummer Classic.

The All-Star Game will be broadcast Tuesday night beginning at 6:30 on FOX 51.
