Tyler, TX (KETK) — Earlier this week, Texans mourned the loss of an American hero, Texan and dedicated veteran advocate. Chris Kyle, 38, of Odessa, was shot and killed last month while allegedly working with a veteran who suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
On Monday, Kyle was honored at Cowboys stadium. “Chris Kyle was the public face of an anonymous breed of American warrior who are handed the hardest missions and assume the largest risks," Governor Rick Perry said.
"Chris was among the very best at what he did, and he saved countless American lives in the process. Our state and our nation suffered a profound loss with his passing. I am honored to have known Chris and to have called him my friend. Anita and I send our deepest condolences to his wife, Taya, his children and the thousands of service members that were his extended family.”
The Following day, Kyle was taken to his final resting place in a 200 mile procession that began in Midlothian, Tx and ended in Austin.
Since Kyle's death, Texans, especially East Texans, have been scrambling to get their hands on his biography, American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History. According to managers at the Tyler Barnes & Noble, the book is sold out and has a long list of back orders. Hastings has sold a bundle of copies, and as of Wednesday morning, 13 were on hand.
In Longview, a Hastings spokesperson reports they are sold out of both the hardback and paperback. They also tell KETK, Ingram Content Group, the largest book distributor in America, is completely out of Kyle's book. At Books-A-Million, copies are sold out as well, but a shipment is expected tomorrow. The exact amount could not be determined.
The current statistics of books sold nationwide could not be determined at this time. KETK is awaiting a response from HarperCollins, a leading book publisher. On the companies website, Chris Kyle is currently listed as the #1 author and the #2 most popular page.
The New York Times lists it as the #3 Paperback Nonfiction Best Seller.
Amazon.com shows the book's list price at 26.99 prior to discounts.
