Tyler , TX (KETK) — If you met Jacksonville Native Stephen I. Crow Jr. today, you'd never guess where he came from. "I barely survived to be honest with you. There were times I looked death right in the face," said Crow. He said it all started when his parents split up. He was 12 years old, and he said he "got real rebellious and just seemed to be angry at the whole world." Crow went from a honor roll student, to someone who didn't care about school at all. "Divorce seems to be common these days, but it had a high affect on me, it really had a big impact on me in a bad way," said Crow.
Music had always been a huge part of Crow's life. "Around that time I was introduced to gangster-rap music. I could really relate to that drive they had in them, it was almost like an anger," said Crow. Because of the absence of his dad, he said rap music raised him. Crow said the music influenced the drugs, violence, and eventually, he ended up in jail.
However, in the darkness, he found the light. "Right at that moment when I was like this is over for me, you know, the guard came around the corner, he had a letter for me from my little sister it was all about Jesus and she told me Jesus wanted to give me another chance," said Crow. Since that day, his heart has been forever changed. He has been an ordained minister for three years, and says God encourages him to use music for ministry. "He said you love rap music, and you can take my word, and your story, your testimony, and share it through rap music," said Crow. The rapper now performs at churches, concerts, and Christian night clubs.
