The Church of Wells building is going through some major renovations. So much in fact, that you may forget what it once looked like.

On December 31, 2013, the building was purchased by the local Wells school. The church building was previously owned by Houston native Dr. Williams, who is rumored to have purchased the space for a family member actively involved in the church. According to these local Wells' residents, this family member left the church, which encouraged the sale.

This sale is largely supported by the community. The school plans to demolish the building, and use the space for a parking lot. Currently the building has all windows and doors removed, and "no trespass" signs pasted on the walls. One resident said, "This will be so nice for the school." Another proclaimed, "Oh it is wonderful! I am so glad." While a different man stated, "I think it's a good thing because I don't believe in their doctrine, and I don't believe in what they're doing around here."

The Church of Wells has been under scrutiny since the disappearance of Catherine Grove, an Arkansas girl who's family claims she was kidnapped and brainwashed by the church. Grove disappeared in July, and is still missing.

Despite the wish of many locals, it is not likely the Church of Wells will move towns. Residents speculate they will host their meetings in other buildings they own in the area.

If you have any information on Catherine Grove, the family would love for you to contact them at (479) 530-5693.
