Church safety seminar to be held in Nacogdoches

NACOGDOCHES - Calvary Baptist Church, in cooperation with the Nacogdoches and Longview Police Departments, will hold a church safety seminar on March 4, 2010.
The seminar will be held from 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church at 3732 NE Stallings Drive in Nacogdoches. The seminar is open to local pastors, church officials and church leaders. The seminar is free and a $10.00 donation per person will be collected to cover lunch.
Featured speakers include:
Detective Mike Carroll, who is a 26-year veteran officer with the Fort Worth Police Department. Detective Carroll conducted the crime scene investigation at Wedgewood Baptist Church in September 1999 when a lone gunman took the lives of seven people and injured seven others.
Jimmy Meeks, who has been a police officer for over 28 years. He presently serves with the Hurst, Texas Police Department. During his time in law enforcement, he has been a hostage negotiator, school resource officer and a crime prevention officer. He is a certified crime prevention specialist and a certified police instructor. He is a licensed and ordained minister.
Norman Crisp has pastored churches in Louisiana and Texas. His last full-time pastorate was at First Baptist Church in Daingerfield, Texas. The third Sunday of his pastorate there, a gunman entered the sanctuary and killed five people and wounded ten others.
Sgt. Jackie Hiles has served the Longview, Texas Police Department for 24 years. He responded to the shooting at First Baptist Church in Daingerfield.
