Longview, TX (Longview News Journal) — A little-known program utilized by just 120 of the city of Longview’s sanitation customers could become much more popular if city council members approve a new sanitation plan that utilizes 95 gallon carts.
Under the Assisted Collections program sanitation employees pick up garbage from in front of a house rather than at curbside, saving the participants — mostly elderly or disabled — the trip.
The Assisted Collections program is available for people who would have difficulty placing the garbage or recycling on the street curb. Participants place trash bags in or near their carports, said Sanitation and Fleet Services Manager Dwayne Archer.
“Most of the time, they have a carport and they put it in the carport, or just outside the garage, so that we can get to it. Some people set it on the porch,” Archer said.
