City board denies Longview ISD’s variance for parking at stadium
Longview, TX — “Tremendously poor planning,” as one municipal zoning board member described it Tuesday, could cost Longview Independent School District taxpayers more than $1 million.
Longview Zoning Board of Adjustments denied the school district’s request for a variance to city parking requirements at the Judson Middle School football stadium after inspectors discovered the district had replaced bleachers and a press box without obtaining the necessary permit.
The district had told city officials its $28.5 million renovation of the middle school would not include the aging Judson Middle School stadium, where Longview ISD’s sub-varsity football games are played. When inspectors recently toured the school construction site, they noticed modular bleachers and a new press box had been installed without the city’s knowledge.
