City of Longview OKs $20K for consultant to re-evaluate proposed center

The city of Longview will spend about $20,000 to hire a consultant to re-evaluate a proposed hotel/conference center on Interstate 20.

Also at Thursday’s City Council meeting, members heard a report on Longview’s simplified sanitation collection program that is set to start once-a-week garbage and recycling pick up Aug. 18.

Assistant City Manager Keith Bonds said the city needs to work with a consultant to help answer questions before again starting negotiations for the private/public hotel/conference center partnership.

“This is what we discussed that we need to incorporate a professional service to really help put this together,” Mayor Jay Dean said after Bonds had introduced the proposal. “I think staff did a good job at the first attempt to try to put this together, but there were still quite a few holes.”
