The City of Palestine invites everyone to enjoy a free fireworks display during their Annual Fireworks Show on Friday, July 4 at sundown in Steven Bennett Park located at 5500 N. Loop 256.

This annual extravagant aerial display of fireworks is hosted by the City of Palestine and in partnership with KYYK 98.3/ KNET 1450.

“Crowds begin appearing as early as 3 p.m. for an 8:30 or 9 p.m. start,” said City Manager Wendy Ellis. “Entire families bring lawn chairs, kids play while they wait and it creates a fun holiday atmosphere.”

Tune into KYYK 98.3/ KNET 1450 for a simulcast of patriotic music timed with the fireworks displays.

Concessions and vendors will be set-up to enhance the festival feel in Steven Bennett Park, with the Parks Department opening the area at 5 p.m. to the public. Vendor information is available from the Parks Department by calling (903) 731-8435.

“We want the public to know the fire scene tape marks the 300 foot safety zone and is there for their safety around the fireworks. Anything marked by that tape will be closed to the public,” said Alan Wilcher, Fire Chief, “Also, be aware that parking is never allowed in designated fire lanes. We want everyone to come and enjoy, but safety is our top priority.”

Local law enforcement will close Loop 256 between Park Avenue (Hwy 84E) and Palestine Avenue (Hwy 79E) to all traffic, this would include all cross streets such as Lacy, Murchison, Moody and Caplain, beginning at approximately 9 p.m. Parking is allowed in private lots and designated parking areas not within the 300 foot safety zone. Please do not park along the shoulder on Loop 256.

Parking lots will close as they fill and local law enforcement will divert traffic to the next available place. Movement, once the show starts, will be limited to emergency staff only.  At the end of the show, traffic flow will be managed by law enforcement to help everyone exit the area safely and quickly.

Fireworks are prohibited within the city limits of Palestine and all alcoholic beverages are prohibited at the fireworks grounds.

Sundown on July 4th is at approximately 8:45 p.m.
