The Tyler Solid Waste Department will hold a Paint Recycling Event for Tyler residents who have old and partially used buckets of paint that they would like to dispose of on Saturday, May 14.

Residents may bring their cans of paint to the Solid Waste employee parking lot, between 8 a.m. and noon, where Solid Waste employees and technicians will be on hand to unload vehicles and make sure that the paint his handled responsibly. Residents may bring up to a total of 25 gallons of oil-based or latex paint per household.

"We want to give Tyler residents a chance to dispose of paint in a safe and environmentally friendly manner," said Gary Lynch, Solid Waste Department, special project coordinator. "This is a great opportunity to get rid of those leftover paint cans that so many of us have sitting around the garage after a project."

The Solid Waste Department is asking that residents not bring epoxy or aerosol paints. Residents are asked to bring a current water bill and their driver's license to show proof of residency. No professional or commercial painters please.

Paint that is of good quality and in useable condition will be donated to the Habitat for Humanity of Smith County's Restore.

The Solid Waste employee parking lot is located in the 400 Block of North Bois D'Arc Avenue, just north of the intersection of West Locust Street and North Bois D'Arc Avenue, near the bus station.

This event is sponsored by Keep Tyler Beautiful, the City of Tyler Solid Waste Department and Greenwood Farms Landfill (an Allied Waste Company).
