LOS ANGELES, CA - Rugby hardly comes to mind when listing sports traditionally popular in urban America, but in south Los Angeles, some student athletes from area charter schools are traveling to England to compete in that sport.
The Rugby-playing students say you can compete in rough and tough fashion, then shake an opponent's hand at the end of the day.
ICEF, an inner city educational foundation, has been translating this sport to kids from 13 high performing Los Angeles charter schools for the last seven years.
This year, 12 players get to see just how good they are by traveling back to England and face off against a high school team from Wellington College.
Previously, young people from the program have been to Hong Hong, New Zealand and England.
