The city of Longview paid about $14,000 to send 12 city employees and officials to the Texas Municipal League’s annual conference this past month in Austin.

According to expense reports for the trip, the last of which was filed in the city of Longview finance department late this past week, the average cost per person for the four-day trip was about $1,175 and included registration for the conference, cost of the hotel and meals.

“TML, what makes it such a beneficial conference is that it provides opportunity for elected officials and city staff to attend workshops that are typically conducted by cities that are coming up with innovative solutions to problems,” said Kasha Williams, District 3 councilwoman who has attended each annual conference since she was elected in 2011.
