Civic Center construction underway

Work begins on new parking area
Lufkin — The Lufkin Daily News is reporting; there will soon be more elbow room for East Texans attending events at Lufkin's Pitser Garrison Civic Center.
Construction has begun on a new parking lot taking shape just north of the Museum of East Texas, but it's just the beginning of the $6.8 million project.
Soon, work begins on a new shelter with a full-sized kitchen, showers and laundry facilities as well as an enlarged foyer and a large conference room.
Financing for the expansion came from money allocated for Hurricane Ike reconstruction.
