Clarksville City councilman honored for 52 years of service

Clarksville City Mayor Larry Allen said he was 8 years old when Basil Dollins was first elected to the City Council by voters in this tiny Gregg County town.

Allen and other council members, as well as family and friends honored Dollins, 89, on Wednesday for his 52 years as mayor pro tem in Clarksville City.

Dollins retired Tuesday night, said City Manager Billy Silvertooth.

“He’s left a legacy here,” said City Secretary Sandra Thur. “He’s a very sweet man, and we are all going to miss him.”
