TYLER — Sundance at Oak Hills in Tyler has been open since December.

It's a Premier memory care facility for Alzheimer's patients.

On Saturday, Sundance -- along with the Alzheimers Alliance of Smith County sponsored a classic car show with the help of East Texan Ronnie Gorman who put the show together.

"People come out and they vote on their favorite cars and the winners out of the top 20s and the people's choice, they receive a trophy," Gorman said.

Nora Gravois with the Alzheimer's Alliance tells KETK all proceeds benefit the alliance.

She says the disease is something that needs to be talked about.

"The statistics are showing that by the year 2025, we will probably see 1 in 5 to 1 to 8 persons over the age of 65 who are affected by this disease," Gravois said.

With plenty of classic cars and trucks to feast the eye on...Becky Edwards with Sundance tells KETK, a blast from the past is a welcome treat to their patients.

"All of the residents got to come out today and you know, one is an auto mechanic and has been his whole life and so he was under the hood and looking at the engines and talking about that and reminiscing about stories from the past so it was great," Edwards said.

"They were just so ecstatic about coming out here, just all grins and everything.  You know, going back to the days when they had the hot rods themselves," Gorman said.
