The City of Tyler and the Code Enforcement Association of Texas (CEAT) are teaming up to Clean The Creek on Feb. 16 at 1:30 p.m. The cleanup effort will be focused upon a half-mile section adjacent to West Mud Creek, east of Donnybrook between Rieck and Grande Roads (map attached).

“The annual CEAT conference is being held in Tyler this year,” explained District 6 Councilmember Jason Wright. “They were interested in giving back to our community by hosting a cleanup. This particular area, adjacent to the creek, was selected because it is quite littered and could benefit from a concentrated cleanup effort such as this.”

At least 25 volunteers from CEAT will assist with the cleanup along with representatives from Keep Tyler Beautiful and the City of Tyler’s Storm Water Group, Streets Department and Parks Department.

“The City Storm Water Group will be involved in the cleanup efforts,” added Tyler Code Enforcement Manager Chris Lennon. “They will also be putting educational decals on the storm water inlets discouraging people from placing trash in the drains. This is one of the primary sources of litter in the creek.”

The City Streets Department will be assisting with the cleanup by bringing a two-ton truck equipped with a hydra-crane to remove large items from the creek.

Volunteers who are interested in helping with the cleanup effort should meet at the south parking lot of Lowes, 5720 S. Broadway Ave. by the garden center.
