Closing of Tyler postal facility shouldn’t slow mail, official says
Longview, TX — An additional shift at surviving U.S. Postal Service processing plants should ensure the pace of letters and packages sent from Northeast Texas is unchanged by the likely closing of the Tyler facility, a postal spokesman said Wednesday.
McKinney Boyd in the Dallas U.S. Postal Service office added that the 200 positions eliminated in Tyler, if Congress fails to act by May 15, will be absorbed by attrition.
“There won’t be any jobs lost — there will be positions (eliminated),” Boyd said. “Employees will have the opportunity to apply for new jobs in new locations.”
