Since parts of Smith County started selling beer and wine, the surrounding counties which cater to drinkers are now hurting, especially one particular city.

Coffee City has taken a big hit.

In fact, they are relying on holiday alcohol business. Whitehouse and Tyler recently started selling alcohol and business is booming.

Once you cross the bridge from Smith County it's definitely a different sight in Coffee City. What was once a busy city because of alcohol and liquor sales now is slowing down.

"My home town of Coffee City being low, it's caused our city officials over there to half to change some of their policies and conserve some money," says Neal Crawford of Coffee City.

Liquor stores are now relying on holiday traffic and they're looking for money from those who still can't get the hard stuff in Smith County.

A few store employees from one local store in Coffee City who would not go on camera said more than 60-percent of their customers are from Smith County.

They tell us, alcohol sales have been cut in half. They've even cut their prices.

Locals tell KETK, this holiday won't be the same because Kilo Landing Park will not be hosting their fireworks show.
