The Colt .45s jersey that the Astros wear for their first throwback game of the year will be missing one element. The Colt .45.
MLB gave the OK to the uniform, which the Astros will wear to kick off a season of throwbacks commemorating the 50th anniversary of the club. It nixed the pistol on the uniform in an era when guns are a sensitive issue, according to an Astros official.
The Astros were the Colt .45s from the franchise’s inaugural year in 1962 through 1964. They changed names to the Astros after a financial dispute regarding licensing the name Colt .45s after the handgun brand.
