TYLER — COMING TONIGHT AT 6 & 10: Back in October, KETK first brought you the story of a sexual harrassment suit brought against Smith Co. Precinct 5 Constable Dennis Taylor and the county.
Apparently, Wendy Savering, an employee of Taylor's was doing well as the School Resource Officer for the Lindale School District. She was even named officer of the year in 2007.
But according to court documents, when Savering got divorced, Taylor asked her out and made inappropriate comments in front of others.
When she rejected him, he began making work-life more difficult for her and ultimately fired her.
After the lawsuit was filed, a settlement was reached in December.
After the local newspaper went to the Attorney General's Office to file an open records request, we now know Savering was paid $200,000 in the settlement, she was reinstated and Taylor was forced to write a positive recommendation letter.
Smith County makes it clear that the county only paid premiums and the rest was under insurance coverage.
