Fort Crockett was built in 1897 for coastal artillery training and harbor defense
Galveston — The Houston Chronicle is reporting; officials at the Texas Historical Commission in Austin have voted to withdraw an appeal to save Galveston's historic Fort Crockett, clearing the way for developers to demolish it.
After a three and a half year legal battle, THC decided it would not be in the best interest of the state to take the matter any further.
