Marshall Against Violence President Demetria McFarland knows what the families and friends of Candy Martin and Kim Rayson are going through.

The two women were shot to death Sunday, and Martin’s ex-husband, Isaiah Christopher Roberts, 29, has been arrested and charged in the deaths.

McFarland spoke to more than 200 people gathered Thursday night at Teague Park in a rally against domestic violence.

“My brother and my dad were both shot and killed,” McFarland said. “I was with Alicia Benefield’s mother, Tamika Hudson, last Saturday when Miss Rayson was speaking out against violence,” McFarland said. “She should be here with us walking hand in hand against violence. But don’t let your loved one be just another person put on the front of a T-shirt as a victim of domestic violence.”
