Many East Texans disagree with some things President Obama announced Wednesday morning regarding gun restrictions and his proposals to curb gun violence.

Congressman Louie Gohmert says,"No matter what the president proposes, no matter what is passed into law it will not restrict the private gun sales that I saw in hundreds of thousands of cases as my time as a judge because those were illegal sales done out of the back of a trunk."

But something Gohmert and some citizens of East Texas agree on is universal background checks.

But, Gohmert says that still won't stop criminals."Some furtherance of a background check is good but as far as extending that to every private sale it will affect law abiding citizens and restrict their rights but it will do nothing to stop criminals."

One thing congressman Gohmert says the can find common ground on is helping the mentally ill in America, he says, "I'm glad be brought it up but I think there is more to be done there and maybe we can work together to do that."

Don, since when did criminals obey the law? Kinda like obummer protecting the rights of illegals instead of Americans. You and hillarygal below can have obummer and forfeit all your rights if you want, but don't expect the rest of us to because it is not going to happen. If you are that scared stay in the house.

Gohmert is an idiot

Gohmert says no matter what the president proposes, no matter what is passed into law it still won't stop criminals. Well Gohmert, guess we do not need any laws at all because none of them have stopped people from doing what they do. Murder is against the law yet people are murdered every day. Guess we need to eliminat that law because it only applies to law abiding citizens...right.

We have a 'Gun Appreciation' day at Lock-n-Load here in Tyler Saturday at 10 AM folks.

Speakers include Grassroots America Executive Director JoAnn Fleming, Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith, state Sen. Kevin Eltife, R-Tyler, state Rep. Matt Schaefer, R-Tyler and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz's East Texas Director Jason Wright.

You all are invited!

I'm 100 percent behind Gohment!

President Obama should run, not walk away from any overture this particular representative might offer regarding his help to control gun sales, data management, background checks in all gun sales, and mental illness intervention...our rep has become a radical joke in OUR House, has said some of the most outrageous statements, has focused negative PR on Texas/East Texas, and embraces the un-American and anti-democracy rhetoric of the crackpot teavangelical rabble. God bless a peaceful US.
