Conservationists team up to purchase bayside ranch

The 17,351-acre property sits along the Texas coast in Calhoun County

The Houston Chronicle is reporting; a sprawling private ranch 75 miles northeast of Corpus Christi will be converted into a state park with the assistance of a fund created in the wake of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation announced Thursday.

The state agency announced it had purchased the property along with other national conservation groups for $37.7 million. The price represents the largest amount ever paid on land in Texas for conservation.
