Henderson, Tx (KETK) — The community continues to come together to show support for Rusk County Lieutenant David Marshall.
Marshall was recently diagnosed with a fatal lung condition, and needed a transplant. He received his new lungs on May 11th, but his road to recovery will be a long one. That's why The Henderson Citizen's Police Academy is hosting a cookout this Friday to raise money for Marshall.
The cookout will take place from 10:30a.m. to 2p.m. on Friday, May 23rd in the parking lot of Bobby's Food Center in Henderson.
A condition known as "petrified lungs" caused Lieutenant Marshall's lungs to harden.
He is currently in good condition in a Dallas hospital.
Sheriff Jeff Price says funds raised at the cookout will help offset the cost of living for his family to stay in Dallas with him as he recovers.
" He's gonna have to stay up there for the next 3.5 to 4 months..and he's only gonna be in the hospital for the next couple of weeks..and after that he's gonna have to have a place to live up there..right next to the hospital for all his treatments and follow ups and therapies.the response we've already gotten is just really amazing."
**An account has been set up at Henderson Federal Savings Bank to receive donations**
All donations of food, drinks, condiments or monetary donations can also be made to Henderson Police Department Citizens Police Academy
