Cornyn wins re-election to U.S. Senate

TEXAS – Republican Incumbent John Cornyn won re-election in the United States Senate race.

Senator Cornyn went up against Democrat Rick Noriega and Libertarian Yvonne Schick.

Cornyn won with 54-percent of the vote. Noriega had 45-percent and Yvonne Schick has 2-percent.

The incumbent Republican joined supporters Tuesday night in Austin to celebrate winning his second term in the Senate.

Cornyn said, “Now, as tough as today is nationally for the Republican Party, I hope it serves as a wake-up call and a reminder for us to return to our core values.”

Rick Noriega, a Houston State Legislator and Army National Guard Officer, called Cornyn to congratulate him.

While disappointed in defeat, Noriega was excited about a future with a new President.

Noriega said, “I’m glad that we have a new President and Commander-in-Chief that is going to bring our men and women home safely.”

Cornyn did well with voters in west and east Texas while Noriega fared well in Hispanic areas of the state.
