Country Swing Music in Tyler Sunday

News
Sunday, June 24, 2012 - 10:35pm

Every month the East Texas Steel Guitar Association tightens up their strings and plays for the public at the Woodmen of the World Building in Tyler.

The group performs every third Sunday, and musicians from as far as Nashville Tennessee head here to East Texas to put on a show.

The East Texas Steel Guitar Association got started in august of 2001, and today has over 85 members.

Members tell KETK they want to keep western swing music alive, and keep it right here in its roots, here in Texas.

Now Sunday, the concert featured professionals from Texarkana and even some from Tyler, but you don't have to be a pro to join the club.

Members tell k-e-t-k that everyone who loves old-country music is welcome to join, and learn right alongside.

And club president Charles Talley says, the challenge makes him love the craft that much more.

Now if you missed today's performance, you're next chance to see this free concert will be July 15th.

And members told me that when new people show up, they have a tendency to get hooked.
