Newspapers were black and white and read all over when Bettye Craddock joined the journalism faculty at Kilgore College 29 years ago.

Today, color photos commonplace, and the retiring journalism professor’s students are read in more publications than she can shake a pica pole at.

At which she can shake a pica pole, that is. Sorry, Mrs. Craddock.

“You didn’t want to disappoint her — I have tried to reward her interest,” Dave Wilson, a 1994-95 Craddock student now working in Connecticut for ESPN.com said Tuesday.
