Says he was "getting exercise"
LUFKIN, TX — A Lufkin man is behind bars after repeatedly running back and forth across a roadway in front of traffic Wednesday.
Shortly before 4:30 p.m., police say Michael Jewell Swint, 48, was seen running and waving a white towel in front of vehicles on the 800 block of North Medford Drive. Cars were forced to brake and change lanes in order to avoid hitting him.
Officer on the northbound side of the road tried to get Swint's attention, but he ignored them and ran across the southbound lanes, still waving the towel. Once police were able to cover both sides, Swint ran through a wooded area toward Paul Avenue and was taken into custody in a nearby field.
When asked what he was doing, Swint stated he was "getting exercise." He was arrested for crossing at point other than a crosswalk and booked into Angelina County Jail. His bond is set at $500.
