2 men charged in Nacogdoches armed robbery
Nacogdoches, Texas (KETK) — Two men are in custody following an early morning armed robbery of a Nacogdoches convenience store over the weekend.
Shortly after 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning, Nacogdoches police received a call on an armed robbery at the Valero located in the 3000 block of Durst Street. The suspect, who was wearing a mask, was last seen leaving the store on foot.
Upon arrival, officers noticed a vehicle leaving the West Side Baptist Church parking lot, which is located next to to the rear of the store. Officers stopped the automobile and found Kenneth Wayne Boyd, 39, of Shelbyville, to be the sole occupant. He was found in possession of PCP and crack cocaine.
While officers were on scene of the first stop, residents of Westview Street called the police reporting a suspicious man walking in the 1800 block. Officers responded and found Derrick Dewayne Johnson, 30, of Center. Johnson matched the description of the person who had just robbed the business. Officers found evidence of the crime on him.
Authorities believe Boyd and Johnson were working together during the robbery. Both of the men remain in the Nacogdoches County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery. Boyd also is charged with possession of a controlled substance.
“The officers involved in this robbery investigation are to be commended for their effective work”, said NPD Chief Jim Sevey. “Also the telecommunicators on duty with the Nacogdoches Consolidated Dispatch Center did wonderful job relaying information to the officers in a quick and efficient manner."
