Authorities were able to chase down a burglar Tuesday morning, thanks to a vigilant employee.

According to the Lufkin Police Department, at 9:59 p.m., a local business employee spotted a person whom they believe was trying to steal property from outside in the 100 block of Industrial Boulevard. The worker tried to detain the suspect, later identified as Tommy L. Harris, 54, of Lufkin, but he rammed his vehicle into the clerk's vehicle and sped away.

The employee followed Harris until a Lufkin patrol unit spotted them on Southwood Drive. The officer attempted to pull the burglar over, but he would not stop, driving about 35-miles-per-hour to his home on the 1700 block of Allendale Drive.

Once stopped, the officer arrested Harris. He is charged with criminal mischief, driving while license invalid, evading arrest, detention, disregard stop sign, failure to maintain financial responsibility, as well as two theft warrants held by the the Lufkin Police Department. His bond is set at $75,000.

The burglar's vehicle was towed from the house due to no insurance. No property was stolen from the business during the incident.

Detectives are also investigating the possibility Harris may have be involved in stealing metal rods from the same business at an earlier date.
