Alleged armed robber caught hiding in apartment complex near UT Tyler

Authorities have arrested the man who is believed to be responsible for a robbery Tuesday morning at a Tyler business.

The suspect was caught at the Village at the U Apartments on the 3000 block of Old Omen Road near the UT Tyler campus. He has been identified as Jaylon Rutherford, 19, of Texarkana.

A resident found Rutherford hiding in their apartment and they called for help, said Tyler police. 

According to Tyler Police, the alleged gunman held up the Food Fast gas station in the 4000 block of University Boulevard around 2:00 a.m.

He was taken to the Smith County Jail and charged with aggravated robbery, possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 in a drug free zone, and possession of marijuana. 

Rutherford's bond was set at $240,500.
