Arizona man behind bars in ETX after schoolhouse fire, alleged robberies lead to manhunt

A manhunt in East Texas came to an end, Tuesday night, resulting in the arrest of an Arizona man and a school building fire.

The suspect has been identified as Steven Marlin Schade, 45. Schade is believed to be an Arizona resident and was charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of arson along with an outstanding arrest warrant from Utah.

Tuesday night around 9:42 p.m., officers with the Pittsburg Police Department responded to the 400 block of South Greer Boulevard to a reported aggravated robbery. While responding to this call, officials received the report of a second aggravated robbery in the same area. A search began for the Schade immediately. Eyewitnesses reported he had displayed a handgun in both of the robberies and ran away.

 At 9:47 p.m., a structure fire was reported on the Pittsburg Independent School District campus in close proximity to the crime scenes.

Schade was located in the area of Fulton Street. He was taken into custody just after midnight and was taken to the Camp County Jail.

Local law enforcement agencies including the Camp County Sheriff’s Department, Camp County Constables Office, Texas Department of Public Safety-Highway Patrol,and the PISD Police Department assisted in the search. A TXDPS helicopter based in Gregg County was requested to assist in the search.
