Thieves stole a vehicle and other items from a local fire station while crews were battling the blaze at the fertilizer storage facility in downtown Athens Friday evening.

According to Athens Professional Firefighters Association President Chris House, an Athens firefighter responding to the incident had his truck, trailer and zero radius mower stolen from the fire station.

A fund has been set up to help veteran firefighter Gene Lattis and his family recover some of the cost from his stolen equipment.

So sad that a man is working 2 jobs and paying for his equipment to be able do both those jobs and while he is working a fire scene, folks who do not want to work take what is not theirs..I sincerely hope the thieves and the equipment are located swiftly........someone out there knows who did it.
