The Kaufman County Sheriff's Office has released the name of a man they have arrested for making threats on authorities in Kaufman County.

Texas Rangers say Nick Morale, 56, of Terrell, was arrested Tuesday night for making a threat, over the phone, to an official working the murder case of Kaufman County district attorney, Mike McLelland.

Morale is charged with making terroristic threats and was arraigned Wednesday night in Kaufman County. He is being held in the Kaufman County Jail on  $1 million bond.

During the investigation into the murders of Mike and Cynthia McLelland, a threat against the safety of a city official was made. After looking into the threat, authorities arrested Morale in Kaufman County.

His arrest is not directly related to the murder of the Kaufman County DA, nor is he being charged with a crime connected to their death or the death of Assistant DA Mark Hasse earlier this year.

At this time, there is no evidence linking Morale to the murders of McLelland or Hasse.

The investigation into the murders of Mike and Cynthia McLelland is ongoing. Officials from multiple law enforcement agencies are working on leads that have been received on the tip line and through other channels.

Investigators are still looking for the person or people responsible for the murders.

The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office would like the citizens of Kaufman County to understand and be aware that security is being stepped up throughout the community. Sheriff David Byrnes asks citizens to be aware of their surroundings, always err on the side of caution and never hesitate to call 911.

Anyone with any information on the murders of Mike and Cynthia McLelland are encouraged to contact the Kaufman County Crimestoppers tip line at 877-TIPSKCC (877-847-7522) or online at KaufmanCountyCrimestoppers.org.
