Two Cherokee County men were booked into jail after they were caught allegedly dealing drugs.

On Friday August 8, 2014 at 10:35 p.m. a narcotics search warrant was executed at the residence of Jimmy Lee Woods, 51, of Cuney, on CR 3502 in Cuney. The search warrant was conducted by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) SWAT,  which includes detectives, deputies, a K-9 Unit, and officers from the Rusk Police Department. Officers from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) K-9 Unit also responded for additional assistance.

Cherokee County detectives had been conducting an ongoing investigation into the sale and manufacture of illegal narcotics at the residence and obtained a search warrant late Friday evening.

When the search warrant was executed, Woods was not at home. However, shortly after beginning the search, Woods was seen on foot near his home  and was arrested. At the time of his arrest he had in his possession a .22 caliber pistol.

Among the items recovered during the search and arrest were marijuana, crack  cocaine, Xanax (Alprazolam), supplies consistent with the manufacture and distribution of illegal narcotics, cash, four pistols and two long guns.

Woods was charged with the following offenses:

  • Manufacture / Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1 ;1st Degree Felony / Bond set at $10,000
  • Manufacture / Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1 ; 2nd Degree Felony / Bond set at $20,000 • Manufacture / Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 3 ;2nd Degree Felony / Bond set at $20,000
  • Possession of Marijuana State Jail Felony / Bond set at $1,500
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 3 (Xanax) Class A Misdemeanor / Bond set at $1,500
  • Tampering with Identification Number (Firearm) Class A Misdemeanor / Bond set at $1,500

He was arraigned Saturday morning by Justice of the Peace Vera Foreman, who set bonds totaling $54,500.   

In a separate arrest on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at approximately 10:30 p.m. a narcotics search warrant was executed at a house in the 900 block of Alameda Street in Jacksonville.

The search warrant was executed by CCSO SWAT and officers from the Jacksonville Police Department Narcotics Division. Cherokee County detectives had been conducting an ongoing investigation into the sale and manufacture of methamphetamine by the suspect, Kyle Adam Tinsley, 24, of Jacksonville, and a search warrant was obtained late Tuesday evening.

Some of Tinsley's illegal activity was documented as having occurred at the home, which is less than 1,000 feet from East Side Elementary and Buckner Park.  

Among the items seized during the search and arrest, were supplies consistent with the manufacture and distribution of illegal narcotics, about $1,000 cash, and around 14.2 grams of methamphetamine.

Tinsley was charged with two 1st Degree Felony counts of Manufacture / Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, Drug Free Zone. As of this time his bonds have not been set.
