On Saturday at approximately 3:30, Lufkin Police responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 200 block of Percy Simond Avenue.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found two vehicles in front of the residence with the windows broken out. When police entered the home, they found hair scattered around living room, a green leafy substance on the table and a man who was bleeding from a small cut on his upper arm.

When questioned regarding the incident, the couple's stories were different as to what occurred, but authorities were able to piece together enough to determine mutual domestic assault.

According to officials, Lester R. Murphy, 33, and Shynecia L. Moreland, 20, both of Lufkin, got into an argument which escalated.

Murphy told officers that he was going to leave, but forgot something and tried to come back into the house, but Moreland slammed the door on his hand.  Moreland says Murphy pulled her hair out and punched her in the mouth.

Moreland then grabbed a knife and swung at Murphy. He grabbed a chair and she cut his upper arm near the shoulder.

The incident continued to escalate until police arrived when the couple were breaking the windows out of each other's cars.

The are both charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Moreland is also charged with criminal mischief and possession of marijuana.
