Center, Texas (KETK) — Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, are searching for a man who is believed to have kidnapped a 15-year-old East Texas girl.
Sheriff Willis Blackwell said Pedro Ceferino, 28, of Center, is on the run with Briseida Echeverria, of Center. The two disappeared on Saturday after the suspect asked the girl's father if he could date her. After learning the man's age the father objected to the relationship and took his daughter's cellphone.
At 9:30 p.m., the Shelby County Sheriff's Office was notified about a missing girl who had disappeared about half an hour earlier from County Road 3754. Once on scene, deputies were informed about the day's events. They also learned Ceferino lived just down the road from the girl's home.
The victim is described as a Hispanic female, 5 feet 4 inches, 170 pounds and has brown eyes with black hair.
According to Sheriff Blackwell, the case was listed as a kidnapping because of victim's age and her not receiving permission to leave with Cerefino.
Authorities believe the pair is headed to the Texas-Mexico border and has notified agents at all crossing points.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was also notified of Echeverria's disappearance.
