East Texan escapes Shreveport prison, caught hiding in shed
Shreveport (KMSS) — A man who escaped prison for several hours is back behind bars following his arrest Thursday morning in Shreveport.
According to the Shreveport Police Department, Collin Hayden, 22, of Atlanta, Texas, was on the run for three hours before law enforcement caught the escapee. At around 5:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the University Health Medical Center on reports of a prisoner who had left campus. Callers told police they saw Hayden in the 2700 block of Fulton Street.
When authorities arrived at the scene, a search began for the suspect and continued until he was found hiding inside a storage shed on Fulton. With the help of a K-9 officer, law enforcement took Hayden into custody. He was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
According to preliminary reports, the suspect was being guarded by a private security corporation when he escaped the guard's watch. Hayden was originally brought to the hospital after making medical complaints and was awaiting treatment.
Authorities are currently working to determine what events took place before Hayden's escape. The East Texan was charged with a host of criminal offenses in other jurisdictions, now faces additional charges of escape and burglary. He was booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
