An investigation as been launched after a shooting left one man dead in northwest San Augustine County Wednesday night.

According to Chief Deputy Gary Cunningham with the San Augustine County Sheriff's Office, around 10:00 p.m., 911 dispatch received a call reporting a shooting at a home on County Road 3120.

Officials responded with EMS and found 52-year-old Dalton West with a single gunshot wound to the upper-left portion of his chest. He was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Precinct Billy Williams.

Chief Cunningham tells KETK it was reported West had gotten into a heated altercation with his wife when the couple's 16-year-old son got a gun and shot his father in the chest.

The son and his mother were both interviewed by law enforcement and the matter is being investigated. The reported gun used in the shooting has been recovered.

No charges have been filed as the investigation is still in its very early stages.

West's body has been taken to Beaumont for autopsy.
