ETX fireman arrested for assaulting girlfriend, preventing her from calling for help

According to Gladewater Police Chief Farrell Alexander, a lieutenant with the Gladewater Fire Department was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend and tried to prevent her from calling authorities for help.

William Todd Orendorff, a was arrested Sunday night around 9:30 p.m., after police say he assaulted his girlfriend.

Orendorff's girlfriend tried to call for help after the fight, when Orendorff took the phone and damaged it.

She then tried to call police from the house phone but he prevented her from doing so.

She was able to run to a neighbor's house where she was able to call her mother who called 911.

Orendorff was arrested for Assault Family Violence and Interference with an Emergency Phone Call.

According to officials, a 30-day emergency protection order prevents the lieutenant from returning to the house.

Orendorff was booked into the Gregg County jail on $2,000 bond.
