Gladewater High School defensive coordinator John Berry has been named interim head football coach and Athletic Director following the Sunday morning arrest of Coach Jerrod Baugh on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

According to police reports, Baugh was arrested around 3:00 a.m., Sunday morning in the McDonalds drive-thru located at 408 Marshall Avenue in Longview.

Baugh has been the head coach of the Bears since 2010 and Coach Berry came with Baugh when he made the move to Gladewater.

Baugh's coaching experience includes the following:

  • 1998-1999 Caldwell High School -  Receivers/Defensive Backs Coach
  • 1999-2000 Ouachita High School - Receivers Coach
  • 2000-2004 Longview High School  - Quarterbacks Coach
  • 2004-2010 Longview High School -  Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
  • 2010-Present Gladewater High School -  Athletic Director/Head Football Coach

This is not Baugh's first run-in with the law in Gregg County for alcohol-related offenses. Baugh was cited for having an open container in his car in September 2007.

Coach Baugh, 36, was released from jail Sunday night.

KETK spoke to Gladewater ISD Superintendent Dr. J.P. Richardson on Monday morning. He says that Baugh will be placed on paid administrative leave while the district conducts an internal investigation into the matter.
