Trinity County, Texas (KETK) — An East Texas man was arrested on warrants around 8:17 a.m., Wednesday morning, after he lit a cigarette while pumping gas which caused a fire in Trinity County.
The 45-year-old, whose name has not been released, went into a Valero on the corner of Robb and Madison Street to buy cigarettes and pre-pay for his gas. When he went back out to his car, he lit a cigarette and the fumes from the gas caused an explosion setting the gas pumps on fire.
The Valero employees shut off the gas pump and were able to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. The hairs on the man's face and head were singed, but not other injuries were reported.
The man was found to have two warrants for his arrest out of Liberty County for failure to appear theft by check and did not have insurance for his vehicle.
He is currently in custody and his vehicle was towed.
