An East Texas man had to be tased Thursday morning during an arrest at a Lufkin Walmart.

At 11:51 a.m., police responded to a call for help at the business located at 2500 Daniel McCall Drive after witnesses spotted Darden L. Lewis, 37, of Chester, cutting items from their packaging and putting the merchandise into his backpack, according to the Lufkin Police Department.  Officers were able to disarm the suspect of his knife shortly after arriving.

During Lewis' arrest, he began to struggle with law enforcement and escaped their grasp. The thief then bolted through the store and was caught again near the front entrance. Officers tased Lewis to finally take him into custody.

The suspect was charged with evading arrest, resisting arrest and theft. He was booked into the Angelina County Jail where bail was set at $1,500 for each charge. He has since posted bond.

Thank God they had the sense to tase him & not shoot him.
Even better is people who saw him stealing spoke up.
If more God loving citizens do the right thing & come forward it will make the cops job easier and our communities safer.
The man is where he needs to be while everything is sorted out.
