ETX men reach plea deals in Tyler motel murder

Tyler, Texas (KETK) — Three East Texas men reached plea deals in connection with a 2013 Tyler motel murder.
On Friday morning Lawrence Murphy Jr., a man accused in the killing of Wesley Scott Lester at the American Inn Motel in Tyler in June of 2013, has agreed to a plea deal with the Smith County District Attorney's Office. In this deal instead of Capital Murder, Murphy will now be charged with Murder and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
On Monday, June 24, 2013, Murphy turned himself in to Tyler Police Investigators at the Police Department at 9:00 a.m. Murphy was believed to have fled to the Dallas area after he was wanted by police for the murder of Lester on June 15, 2013.
Darian Pilkinton and Broderick Smith, whose charges was also reduced from capital murder to murder, entered in guilty pleas in exchange for 40 years and 15 years in prison, respectively.
The fourth suspect connected to the murder, Michael Browning, accepted a 30 year sentenced in exchange for his guilty plea on August 17.
