ETX 'shadow boxer' arrested twice on same day for repeat offense
Lufkin, TExas (KETK) — An East Texas man arrested for public intoxication Tuesday morning was taken into custody in less than 24 hours for the same offense.
Erik L. Jones, 36, of Lufkin, was first arrested by police at 1:30 a.m. when he was found "shadow boxing" on South Third Street while allegedly high on PCP. His girlfriend called police and said she was scared for his safety in the road. He was booked into jail on public intoxication and released from jail on $500 bond.
Later the same day at 9:30 p.m., Lufkin officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Feagin Drive following reports of an intoxicated person walking in the area. A caller stated a man wearing a cap and black shirt was walking in front of their home, throwing his arms up and talking to himself. The complainant also said he tried talking with the man, but he only mumbled indecipherable responses. The caller told police the man appeared intoxicated, but did not smell of alcohol.
Once authorities arrived on scene, police began speaking with Jones, who continued to sway and gave unintelligible answers. Officers also noticed his eyes were moving uncontrollably.
Authorities determined the suspect was a danger to himself or others and was arrested for a second time. He was booked into the Angelina County Jail. His bail was set at $500.
