Rusk County, Texas (KETK) — The result of a blood alcohol test for an East Texas woman who reportedly killed a mother and her two children in a drunken driving accident has been released to KETK.
According to Rusk County officials, the blood alcohol content level for Shelby Taylor, 22, of Henderson, was .16, twice the legal limit, at the time of the crash.
On the night Thursday, July 10, an oil field truck, driven by Taylor, was headed southbound in the northbound lane of Highway 259 near the Gregg and Rusk County line when it collided with a van, according to DPS. Trooper Jean Dark stated the driver of the another vehicle, Kentanbhai Patel attempted to avoid the crash, but he was not able to dodge the truck in time.
Taylor also had a passenger in the truck with her who was identified as Sarah Furlong, 21.
Kentanbhai's two children Rudra Patel, 5, and Trisha Patel, 12, were pronounced dead at the scene. Heena Patel, 43, died at a local hospital. Kentanbhai was treated and released.
According to Rusk County Jail records, this is not Shelby's first run-in with officials having been arrested previously for the following:
Assault causing bodily injury/family violence (February 13, 2010)
Assault causing bodily injury (October 13, 2010)
Burglary of a building (January 14, 2011)
- Driving while intoxicated (October 12, 2013)
The Rusk County District Attorney's Office said they expect Taylor to appear before a grand jury in September.
