Former ETX mayoral candidate recently arrested for retaliation dies after being shot

Hallsville, Texas (KETK) — An East Texas man who was arrested in October 2013 for retaliation has died at a local hospital after being shot Monday morning.
According to the Harrison County Sheriff's Office, 911 dispatchers received a call at approximately 7:50 a.m., Monday morning, regarding a shooting that had occurred at 541 Appaloosa Lane in Hallsville. Carloyn Faye, the girlfriend of Marc Mathison, 51, stated she had just shot Mathison twice and needed an ambulance and deputies.
Mathison was pronounced dead at 9:15 this morning.
Mathison was arrested for retaliation in October 2013 and during the same time period, he was also arrested for aggravated assault and weapons offenses in Gregg County.
Mathison is a former Kilgore mayoral candidate having ran unsuccessfully last May to unseat Kilgore Mayor Ronnie Spradlin. Mathison received 30 votes to Spradlin's 584 in the election.
The incident is under investigation and Investigators are currently conducting an interview with the female that called the 911 dispatchers.
