Former ETX pharmacist receives 32 years in jail for sexually assaulting child

Tyler, Texas (KETK) —
A retired Tyler pharmacist who pled guilty to the charges of sexually assaulting a child in June 2013 was sentenced to 32 years in prison Tuesday morning.
According to Smith County judicial records, retired pharmacist, James Carey Prosperie, 74, of Tyler, who was arrested, September 3, 2013, after a standoff at his home on Jeff Davis Drive pled guilty to aggravated sexual assault against child. Prosperie used to be a pharmacist in Tyler at 2119 East Fifth Street in Tyler, which has since been converted into a tattoo parlor.
A Smith County Jury sentenced Prosperie to two-16 year sentences to be served consecutively.
According to the arrest affidavit provided by Smith County, a detective working the case states she has good reason to believe and she does believe, Prosperie sexually assaulted a 14-year-old relative on June 8, 2013. A report from CPS states Prosperie confessed to lawyer/friend he had sexual contact with the underage relative on at least two separate occasions.
