Four people entered a Lufkin business Thursday afternoon and stole an unknown amount of jewelry in a "smash and grab" heist.

According the Lufkin Police Department, at 2 p.m., dispatchers received a report on four people robbing Beard's Fine Jewelry, located on the 2000 block of S 1st Street. A witness gave the license plate and description of the suspect vehicle, but responding officers found it abandoned in a nearby parking lot.

The vehicle had been reported stolen the day before from a local shopping center. It is believed the suspects may have gotten into a small, newer model, tan or beige SUV, possibly a Ford Edge.

Detectives later learned from workers at the store that four robbers entered the business. During this time, employees hid in the back of the business for safety. The bandits then began breaking jewelry cases and taking different items before leaving the area.

A value on the stolen goods has not been released. No one was injured during the incident.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact the Lufkin Police Department at (936)633-0356. Anyone with information can provide tips anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers of Lufkin at (936) 639-TIPS or by submitting an anonymous tip at Crime Stoppers Tipsters never give their name and Crime Stoppers may pay a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest related to this incident.
